Children's Book Reviews for Primary School Teachers
I recently attended an INSET on reading. The trainer showed some statistics from a survey on teachers' knowledge of children's authors. The figures were shocking - basically, apart from Roald Dahl and Julia Donaldson, the average primary school teacher can't name more than a handful of good quality children's books (obviously this is because none of us have any time!).
Despite being a major bookworm and having a passion for teaching writing, I realised that I don't have a great knowledge of good children's literature so I decided to start reading, and reviewing, children's books for my fellow primary teachers.
Each month, I will read a children's book and write a review. If I can spot ideas for writing lesson sequences I'll mention them (and possibly do some planning) but otherwise my reviews will be for good class reads.
